Job Summary:
The Senior Engineering Manager provides leadership for the design engineering group supporting current and future programs. This person will oversee the execution of engineering personnel development and technical competence of the Engineering department. Will also be responsible for the continuous growth alignment and leveraging of reporting managers mentoring establishing and reporting of key metrics measuring performance of the engineering team and promoting a cross-functional team culture utilizing Lean and Six Sigma Principles.
Summary of Duties :
+ Monitor scheduling and department resources to meet or exceed business objectives and goals.
+ Ensure that schedules are met and budgets are maintained.
+ Plans and direct the work of the design engineers to achieve product objectives.
+ Responsible for preparing certification cost estimates at the proposal phase and during the course of projects.
+ Forecast manage and maintain actual vs budgeted engineering costs.
+ Develop and maintain processes to ensure efficient completion of engineering designs.
+ Prepare staffing plans anticipate critical path issues and set strategies to meet program schedules and budgets.
+ Promote cost awareness through BOM management and manufacturing decision making.
+ Recruit hire train and evaluate employee performance.
+ Recommend/initiate promotions transfers and performance improvement plans or disciplinary actions.
+ Coach train and mentor a team of Design Engineers to ensure all team members are being fully utilized and are working efficiently.
+ Develop analytical tools databases and work flow procedures as needed for efficient design.
+ Works closely and constructively with other departments in order to gain consensus on the best strategy for each engineering design issue.
+ Systematically assess the engineering capacity and estimate hours of upcoming work. Standardize document and share the process with PEs so they can become proficient at estimating and planning work.
+ Perform routine capability analysis and implement development plans to increase skill level within the department.
+ Mentor talented top performing junior engineers by keeping them challenged and connected with more experienced engineers.
+ Drive cost reductions through value engineering activities.
Qualifications:
+ Education: BS in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering Masters degree preferred. Experience: 10 - 15 Years of Aerospace Engineering experience with at least 5 years in a Leadership role (leading a team(s).
+ Expertise in Composites including design manufacture and testing of composite structures.
+ Experience working with Aircraft OEM preferred
+ Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specificications.
+ Experience coaching and managing a team of engineers including evaluating performance and providing constructive feedback.
+ Excellent organization and communication skills with ability to adhere to deadlines.
+ Strong business acumen with ability to establish budgets provide program health metrics and make appropriate resource recommendations.
+ Strong time management and problem solving skills.
+ Excellent technical conceptual and financial skills required.
+ Ability to mentor and motivate a team to accomplish goals.
+ Able to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions with workable solutions.
+ Able to develop implement and monitor corrective action plans for improved business/certification cycle times.
+ Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathmatical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
+ Computer Skills: Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel AutoCAD Microsoft Project CATIA V5Other Skills: Understanding of basics of airworthiness requirements for passenger aircraft and mechanical systems and strengths of materials. Technical problem solving combined with communication and organizational development skills.
