Job purpose

The Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of rotor-wing aircraft, with a primary focus on UH-60 Black Hawk and UH-1 platforms. This position ensures all helicopters meet FAA and company safety, quality, and performance standards while supporting operational readiness in a collaborative team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance, and repairs on UH-60, UH-1, and other supported helicopters.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural issues in accordance with OEM manuals, FAA regulations, and company SOPs.
  • Conduct component removal, installation, adjustment, and rigging of flight controls and related systems.
  • Accurately complete all aircraft maintenance documentation, ensuring compliance with FAA and company record-keeping standards.
  • Use approved tools and calibrated equipment to maintain aircraft to airworthy standards.
  • Coordinate with pilots, crew chiefs, and maintenance leadership to prioritize and execute maintenance tasks effectively.
  • Assist with parts requisition, inventory control, and ensuring proper material handling.
  • Support field maintenance operations, including AOG (Aircraft on Ground) situations, as required.
  • Participate in quality control reviews, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Workplace Safety:

  • Adhere to OSHA and FAA safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with company Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Identify, report, and mitigate workplace hazards and unsafe practices.
  • Promote a “Safety First” culture among all maintenance and inspection personnel.
  • Wear and enforce use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).

SOP/KPIs:

  • 100% compliance with FAA regulations and company maintenance procedures.
  • Zero tolerance for preventable safety or quality incidents.
  • Timely completion of scheduled inspections and repairs to meet aircraft availability targets.
  • Accurate and complete maintenance documentation.
  • High reliability metrics (minimal post-maintenance discrepancies).

Team Support:

  • Work collaboratively with pilots, engineers, and other maintenance staff.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanics when assigned.
  • Assist other departments to achieve overall mission success.
  • Maintain best practices and a positive working environment with all parties at the worksite.
  • Coordinate with other departments to achieve outlined goals.
  • Respond to communications (e-mails, meeting requests, Teams messages, etc.) set by team members in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Learn Smartsheet’s project management software and take ownership of assigned projects. Aid in the evolution of usage of this platform by spearheading best practices adoption.

Qualifications:

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of rotor-wing aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Experience on UH-60 and/or UH-1 platforms strongly preferred (military or civilian).
  • Prior experience in Part 135, Part 145, or Part 91 operations – Strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations (CFR Parts 43, 91, 135, 145) and industry standards

Hard Skills & Education:

  • Strong understanding of rotor-wing airframes, engines, hydraulics, electrical, and avionics systems.

  • Computer literacy, including maintenance tracking software (e.g., Quantum, CAMP, or similar).
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school or associate degree preferred.

  • Support flight operations and readiness with minimal downtime.

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods
  • Visual acuity to detect cracks, corrosion, or wear

  • Must pass an initial and reoccurring fit for duty exam
