General The role of the GSE Mechanic is to maintain ground support equipment in a safe operating condition maintain a preventative maintenance program and perform maintenance to resolve immediate operational and/or safety concerns. Major and Functions: Provides routine and comprehensive maintenance of fuel trucks. Responsible for repair and maintenance of all ground support equipment including but not limited to tugs and ground power units. Analyzes equipment requirements maintains equipment records and documents maintenance actions. Inspects ground support equipment and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventative maintenance. Responds to emergency calls for ground support equipment assistance. Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in safe operating condition. This mechanic maintains external fuel and grounding systems inspects tests and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation services equipment with fuel oil water coolant hydraulic fluid refrigerant and compressed air diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses test equipment and technical publications. This mechanic also does the following: disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components removes disassembles repairs cleans treats for corrosion assembles and reinstalls GSE components and accessories stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications stores handles labels uses and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state local and federal environmental standards and regulations. Practices good housekeeping tool control Foreign Object Damage prevention and safety at all times. Assists in aircraft fueling and tow operations. Prior aviation GSE mechanic experience required. Must possess a valid driver s license and an acceptable driving record. Must possess required knowledge skills abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Ability to operate equipment used in semiskilled trades power and hand tools etc. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees. Working Conditions: Physical Effort: Must be able to perform physical activities such as but not limited to lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted) bending standing climbing or walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals cleaning materials dust and noise. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions. Walking for extended periods of time is required throughout the course of daily activities. Mental Effort: Operations are dynamic and situations may require immediate attention. This has high exposure to the public and requires a professional approach and demeanor under all conditions. It also requires a genuine willingness to assist persons with a wide range of requests and needs.
