Description, duties, responsibilities
The Pilots fly missions and aircraft which vary with the department to which the is assigned. Pilots must maintain current certification to fly agency aircraft which may include jets turboprop single- and/or multi-engine airplanes rotorcraft helicopter or other equipment owned or leased by the agency. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This is a seasonal Rotorcraft Pilot that works the duration of the fire season for the Nevada Division of Forestry. Frequent to extensive travel is required. In order to receive consideration applicants must indicate their availability to work in this geographical location and accept the travel conditions. Positions in this class conduct fire reconnaissance missions fire suppression flights and/or helitak flights including reporting fires; evaluating fire conditions; ordering ground crews and equipment and coordinating air attacks pending arrival of an incident commander; monitoring and reporting fire conditions; assisting the incident commander in directing air operations; and transporting personnel cargo and equipment to various locations within and outside the State. To see full Class Specifications visit: To Qualify: In order to be qualified you must meet the following Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and 1500 hours logged pilot-in-command flight time in a rotorcraft. Flight experience must include a minimum of 250 hours low-level flight; 250 hours conducting external load operations; 500 hours mountain flying experience above 5000 feet mean sea level; and 100 hours in the preceding 12 months. Special A valid second class medical certificate issued by an authorized FAA medical examiner is required. Current commercial and instrument certifications issued by the FAA in either multi-engine and/or single-engine aircraft or rotorcraft as designated by the agency at the time of recruitment. In order to serve the needs of the agency additional certification may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066 this has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. Additional Experience This requires 100 hours of UH-1H flight time as pilot-in-command.
