DESCRIPTION
The Director of Maintenance is responsible for the operation and management of the 135 Maintenance Department and its personnel.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical support on a variety of tasks
- Develops and recommends procedures and methods, and prepares technical reports and documentation
- Performs technical evaluations of events to determine root cause; recommends corrective action
- Represents NICHOLAS AIR as one company internally and externally with industry groups and regulatory bodies
- Leads the development, communication, and implementation of efficient operational procedures, policies, and effective growth strategies for the department
- Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship as liaison between company, clients, and the FAA with responsibility for the company’s issued maintenance certificates and signing of correspondence
- Ensures that the department is properly staffed, managed, organized, trained, and directed to fulfill its responsibilities according to internal and FAA regulations, including handling personnel issues such as discipline and termination when necessary
- Collaborates with senior management to develop and implement the department’s annual business plan and budget based on goals and objectives for the company
- Makes periodic inspections of the working area and takes necessary steps to correct any discrepancies related to safety, cleanliness, organization, or general housekeeping practices
- Promotes a healthy culture for the department and the team that benefits employee engagement, happiness, customer loyalty, safety, integrity, and overall excellence
- Responsible for all record keeping and auditing requirements, including maintenance and disposition of those records, and signing of Part D of the Operations Specifications
- Oversees all inspections, repairs, and component changes and accompanying documentation are accomplished in accordance with the manufacturer or FAA approved procedures, conforming to quality control standards, on schedule, and in compliance with FAA regulations
- Oversees and reviews work orders while jobs are in progress monitoring for proper sign offs, supervising and inspecting as required
- Responsible for the aircraft, tooling, equipment, materials, inventory, and activities within the hangar(s) and on the adjacent ramp(s) for all department personnel
- Plans and prepares maintenance or repair estimates and determine the scope of work and personnel required
- Maintains all necessary records and logbooks, including certification in the aircraft permanent maintenance records that the aircraft is approved and returned to service
- Acts as primary point of contact with flight crews on maintenance discrepancies related to Part 91 and Part 135 fleet with understanding of MEL and write-up process for each aircraft
- Coordinates with the Director of Operations on the timely communication and correction of mechanical repairs, as well as planned inspections or maintenance work on the Part 91 and Part 135 fleet around scheduled flights
- Provides the Director of Operations with the current airworthiness status of aircraft under the Part 91 and Part 135 fleet, forecasting down times to facilitate maintenance scheduling at optimal times and ensure timely deferral or correction of aircraft discrepancies
- Coordinates with senior management, officers, and owners on matters related to business operations
- The VP of Maintenance may delegate some of these duties, but retains overall responsibility
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 7-10 years of experience within general aviation maintenance operations, including Part 135, and equivalent operational experience to include familiarity with aircraft maintenance scheduling, team management, and customer relations
- 5+ years in Supervisor or Management role
- Must have knowledge of, and maintain a current file of all applicable FARs
- Comprehensive understanding of aviation industry
- Experience managing mixed-level team members of professionals and managers
- Experience setting standards and operational guidelines
- Extraordinary customer focus
- Current FAA issued certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings and no violations
- Ability to meet all FAA requirements and approval for the Director of Maintenance designation
- Experience in Bombardier, Cessna, Embraer, and Textron Service Center operations
- Experience with aircraft management record keeping programs including CAMP and Flight docs
- Familiarity with requirements of 14 CFR Part 145, Part 135, Part 91, and Part 145 repair station
- Interface and communicate well with customers, vendors, team members, flight crews, Chief Pilot, and Director of Operations
- Strong people management, conflict resolution, and resource allocation skills
- Extensive knowledge of current FAA regulation
DESIRED QUALITIES
- Current Aircraft Inspector (IA) certificate preferred

REQUIREMENTS
- This position is required to report daily to Oxford, MS Headquarters
- Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing
- Must pass a background check.
- Must have authorization to work in the U.S.
