NBAA is looking for Air Traffic Services Specialist at the FAA Command Center in Warrenton, VA
The Air Traffic Services (ATS) Specialist advocates for business aviation in the planning and execution of the daily strategic plan of operations for the National Airspace System (NAS), to ensure equity in airspace allocation and participation in traffic management programs. The ATS Specialist supports NBAA member companies as well as specific Air Traffic Services subscribers on issues related to aircraft operations within the NAS. This position is physically located at the FAA ATC System Command Center (ATCSCC) in Warrenton, VA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides personalized service to NBAA ATS subscribers
- Collaborates every two hours with FAA managers, airline representatives, and FAA specialists on the strategic plan of operations for the NAS and disseminates status updates to subscribers on a regular basis
- Interacts daily with FAA personnel and NBAA ATS Subscribers to provide information, gather information, influence others' decisions, provide input for strategic and tactical decision-making, and negotiate issues for members and subscribers
- Monitors for, and makes regular entries into the shift journal to accurately capture subscriber issues, NAS events, important conversations with FAA personnel, and services provided
- Monitors, interprets and disseminates NAS information to members in a timely manner
- Utilizes FAA and NBAA tools and computer applications to maintain situational awareness of the NAS throughout their shift
- Assists the FAA with No-Radio (NORDO) aircraft information when available
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains and utilizes an automated Flight Schedule Application to track member scheduled flights, evaluate highly constrained regions or airports, communicate critical NAS information, conduct basic data mining to assess trends and predict operations
Participates in Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) work groups as assigned representing NBAA and Business Aviation Interests
Trains other ATS Specialists and/or Subscribers as required
Builds and fosters relationships with FAA personnel by educating them on NBAA Members’ practices to provide a better understanding of business aviation operations in the NAS
Other additional duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Working knowledge of Traffic Flow Management concepts and procedures and the ability to simplify these complex processes to NBAA members
Ability to communicate knowledge of ATC procedures as it relates to business aviation practices
Working knowledge of FAA Air Traffic Management policies and procedures
Available to work nights/weekends/holidays
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent decision-making skills and ability to present fact finding data
Ability to adapt to dynamically changing situations
Ability to learn, train, and utilize several software platforms including and not limited to FAA applications (FSM, TSD, OIS), web-based resources, and various specialized databases
Excellent presentation skills
Ability to multitask
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to present facts in a clear manner
Ability to assist with issue resolution and develop alternatives for members
Solid understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Parts 91/135, weather impacts, business aviation flight operations, aircraft dispatch techniques, and air traffic control procedures relating to traffic flow management
Good typing skills, computer knowledge and adaptability to changes in various computer systems
Ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance
EDUCATION
Accredited Associate’s Degree in Aviation or related field or equivalent job experience
FAA Dispatcher’s Certificate and/or Aircraft Pilot License
EXPERIENCE
Prior work experience in aircraft flight operations or Air Traffic Control
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Working knowledge of FAA Air Traffic Management applications that are used to implement Traffic Management Initiatives
Prior work experience in a business aviation flight operations department in the role of operations management, dispatch, and/or aircraft scheduling
Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in aviation or related field
Experience in Air Traffic Control
