Mission Responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of a large general aviation reliever airport and its associated business park. Assist with airport operations by ensuring compliance with airport rules and regulations and enforcing legal/regulatory requirements. Assist with airport maintenance to ensure a safe airport operating environment. The Airport is located on 1013 acres and has 265 based aircraft 3 fuel farms and 26 commercial tenants. Essential Outcomes Completes daily job assignments to maintain fire station grounds and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition. Assist airport maintenance staff with routine and emergency airfield ground and facility maintenance tasks to include grounds keeping and pavement and facilities maintenance and repairs. Assist with electrical troubleshooting of field lighting system. Assist management in the development and implementation of policies and procedures affecting airport maintenance safety and security. Carry out spraying of herbicide and pesticides. Operate equipment such as skid steer loader snow plows snow broom bucket loader lawn mowers etc. Maintain hangar doors (manual). Conduct routine and special airport facility inspections. Assess the effects of facility conditions on continued safe air operations. Coordinate with air traffic control personnel and recommend air operations procedures appropriate to the existing conditions. Structural repairs to hangars. Sheet metal forming for repairs to hangars and other Airport buildings. Effectively communicate through verbal and written reports and work orders. Under the direction of the Fire Chief and/or as a member of the Aircraft Rescue Firefighting team responds to control and extinguish fires rescue occupants and assist in eliminating any emergency situations. Drives firefighting apparatus in compliance with the laws of the State of Illinois and Fire Department operating procedures. Able to tolerate considerable exposure to stressful situations as a result of human behavior while responding to emergency and non-emergency situations. Required Skills Knowledge Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of grounds keeping spray painting carpentry and plumbing. Problem solving and analytical skills with ability to trouble shoot and repair equipment. Knowledge of safety procedures while operating mowers tractors and trucks around an active airport environment. Ability to pass a written knowledge test and practical skills test on operating vehicles in an air traffic controlled environment within 3 weeks of hiring. Ability to weld for structural as well as sheet metal repairs to metal buildings. Must be a Certified Firefighter II (Basis for Firefighter skills required to become an ARFF Firefighter). Minimum of Medical First Responder or EMT-B certification (Required by FAA Part 139). Must have certification as an FAA Basic Airport Firefighter (Required by FAA Part 139). Such certification must be maintained in good standing at all times. Must be familiar with airport operations and have knowledge of Aircraft Rescue Firefighting apparatus operation (Required by FAA Part 139). Must satisfy the medical condition of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1582 (Referenced by FAA). Possession of a valid Class B Driver License or CDL (Required by Illinois State Law). Required Experience Degree: High School Diploma or GED required Experience: 3 years required. 1 year of ARFF experience desirable.
