Position Title: Operating Principal

  1. Position Summary:

The Operating Principal will report to the JetBlue Technology Ventures (JTV) Director Operations and Partnerships. The Principal is a Manager level role and will oversee the relationship between JTV portfolio companies JetBlue and other partners within the JetBlue and JTV ecosystem. The Principal will evangelize the implementation of the new and innovative technology solutions surfaced through JTV to meet the JetBlue and partners strategic needs and maximize JTV investments in the JetBlue ecosystem. The Principal will also help identify appropriate investment areas of relevance to JetBlue through "Innovation Sprints" and support the due diligence of potential investments as they relate to the business needs of various JetBlue departments.

As a key liaison between JetBlue partners and JTV this candidate will ideally possess both a travel industry business background as well as a product finance operations and/or technology background. S/he must be comfortable and credible interacting with senior executives at JetBlue JTV portfolio companies and partners as well as with front-line crewmembers and commercial/operational managers and more. The demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about the travel industry technology and product challenges as well as the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions work cross-functionally and build consensus is critical to this role. A keen sense of ownership drive and scrappiness is a must. The Principal must be able to work in a face paced environment and model the JetBlue Technology Ventures values of Safety Caring Integrity Passion and Fun.

This position is based in Long Island City NY but also requires significant presence in Silicon Valley and other domestic and international locations as needed while interacting with the partner ecosystem. The reporting structure is through JetBlue Technology Ventures which is a subsidiary of JetBlue Airways.

  1. Essential Responsibilities:
  • Help identify JTV investment areas that are relevant to the JetBlue ecosystems immediate and future business needs and support the JTV investment team in sourcing and vetting potential investments
  • Participate as a key member of the JTV operations and partnerships team and partner with JetBlue department leaders and JetBlue ecosystem partners to understand their strategic innovation activities gain departmental and business sponsorship and identify proof-of-concept or deployment opportunities for JTV portfolio companies
  • Support JTVs Platform of post investment activities of portfolio companies in partnership with the Director and any board observers appointed by JTV on portfolio companies and develop quarterly updates for the JTV Investment Committee
  • Act as a liaison between JetBlue and JTV for strategic needs assessments and portfolio company implementations within JetBlue
  • Lead Innovation Sprints and strategy reviews in support of JetBlue department needs
  • Help secure pilot opportunities actively within JetBlue and its ecosystem and drive innovative thinking within various departments
  • Work closely with the ecosystem of partners to drive trials of JTV portfolio companies and innovative thinking through various programs including but not limited to Innovation Sprints partnership summits partnership silicon valley events innovation events and startup events
  • Utilize travel industry expertise and experience to support the research financial analysis and modeling of potential investments with technologies that may be implemented within JetBlue
  • Support JTV participation in various travel industry and JTV accelerator and incubator programs and mentor startups selected to the programs
  • Be a credible spokesperson for JTV within JetBlue and the broader travel and hospitality industry venture and entrepreneur communities
  • Other duties as assigned

  1. Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • (5) Five years business development operations finance information technology product/program management experience
  • Experience in leading large scale cross-departmental projects from initial scoping to final implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about travel industry technology and product challenges
  • Excellent written/verbal presentation and listening skills and the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
  • Available for overnight travel (up to 40-50%) including one week per month in Silicon Valley at the JetBlue Technology Ventures office
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced multi-team environment
  • Ability to work to deadlines with quick turnaround
  • Able to pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Qualifications:

  • (2) Two years project or program management experience at JetBlue
  • (2) Two year experience as JetBlue Manager

  1. Interactions:

Supervision Received:

Plans and carries out work assignments; resolves most conflicts which arise; coordinates

work with others as necessary; interprets policy on own initiative in terms of established objectives. Keeps crewleader informed of progress potentially controversial matters or far-reaching implications

Supervisory Duties:

May train assign work to and check work of one (1) or more crewmembers; may participate in the decision to hire fire and promote crewmembers; does not conduct the same work as crewmembers on a regular basis

  1. Working Conditions:

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Well groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights and if time permits all capable Crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

Physical Effort: Generally not required or up to 10 pounds occasionally 0 pounds frequently. (Sedentary)
