The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking a Lead Sensor System Engineer to join the team in Tukwila, WA. In this role you will work on a range of spacecraft programs and will develop state of the art sensor systems for the use on spacecraft. You will develop integrated sensor and system performance analyses, complete mission planning and analysis, and implement creative solutions to support our customers.
Position Responsibilities:
Define sub-system and system level requirements through performance analyses of advanced sensor systems.
Develop sensor system simulations, models, tools and analysis techniques
Define sensor performance requirements, ensure requirements traceability and quality from the system level to component level, and resolve requirements issues across program elements
Lead mission planning and analyses to define spacecraft payload mission performance requirements
Perform a variety of complex trade studies to identify and recommend solutions to problems and issues; present recommendation and implementation status to program leadership, suppliers, and customers.
Define validation and verification requirements and methods
Support design reviews, and sensor & system testing to ensure delivery of products that meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations
Travel will be required
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.
This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
3+ years of experience with active or passive sensor sub-systems, including the integrated large-scale systems design, analysis, integration and test.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Thorough understanding of the entire sensor system to be able to evaluate and predict sensor performance based on detailed component characteristics
Familiarity with various types of active and passive sensors, including imagers, trackers, radiometers, and spectrometers.
Technical oversight of major subcontractors
Experience leading the development of major E/O systems
Experience in E/O modeling and simulation tools and techniques
Experience in working agile model based system engineering environment
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
Executive level presentation skills
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
