Provides navigational guidance to civilian and military aircraft with speed and performance capabilities. Determines methods and times by which arrivals and departures can be interspersed to maintain separation with the least delay to air and ground traffic. The incumbent of this position is required to sign DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program). May be required to serve on rotating shifts. This position is subject to a Class IV aviation flight physical to OPM standards and periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position. This position requires the incumbent to become Facility Rated during the first twelve (12) months of employment. Defense National Relocation Program will NOT be authorized. In order to qualify you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. In order to qualify at the GS-11 level you must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-09 level. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves: 1) Conducting simultaneous arrivals and departures to a runway; 2) Providing instructions or advisories to ensure an orderly flow of traffic; and 3) providing Precision Approach Radar (PAR) services to ensure smooth and safe landings. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires the incumbent to possess a valid FAA certification as an air traffic controller. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: FacilitiesOral CommunicationTechnical CompetenceEducation Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
