Job SummaryResponsible to review designs evaluate their load bearing capabilities recommend materials and geometries to assure designs perform adequately structurally in commercial and military aircraft. Evaluates designs for static dynamic and shock performance using a variety of analytical tools and techniques. Oversees the creation and execution of structural test plans used to verify performance of analytical models or large scale structures. May assume certain project engineering tasks and activities specific to area of expertise. Leads other specialists in their activities to complete overall project goals. Provides interface with external experts in similar and related disciplines. Serves as corporate resource in developing analysis and qualification direction for different projects. Works closely with program managers project engineers and production personnel on a wide range of technical and operational issues related to design manufacture and qualification of new and existing designs. As an FAA EASA or other regulatory bodies Designated Engineering Representative (DER) the incumbent reviews designs for compliance with appropriate regulations orders and laws Serves as de facto government authority in reviewing and accepting data designs and analysis. Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following: Reviews technical reports for completeness correctness and compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. Approves technical reports in the area of structural analysis on behalf of the Engineering Department. Reviews and approves technical data for major alterations on behalf of the FAA as either DER or ODA UM. Reviews and approves technical data for major repairs on behalf of the FAA as DER or ODA UM. Includes required training to maintain currency with DER/UM requirements. Provide technical and regulatory guidance to the project engineering and certification team. Leads analysis efforts by developing and determining appropriate analysis approach for the project. May included advanced methods (such as FEA) or design and completion of different test programs. Guides and directs more junior team members in application of appropriate methods. Review implement and coordinate structural analysis requirements on military projects. Includes interfacing with prime contractors and military regulatory bodies. Leads the structural analysis team in proficiency gains by providing training opportunities encouraging a learning environment and by appropriate task assignment and delegation. Leads the structural analysis team in efficiency gains through improvement and innovations within the teams technology processes methods and techniques. Reviews and approves technical documentation of aircraft installations and modifications to verify safety of the installation/modification and compliance with regulations. Coordinates efforts with engineering analysis vendors and structural testing vendors. Strong ability to perform classical analyses using closed-form equations for a broad range of structures and failure modes. Strong ability to derive internal loads and/or evaluate structures using the Finite Element Method (FEM). Directly Applicable experience in FAR part 27 and 29 environments and Mil-Std-810z qualification testingSkills Excellent organizational skills detail oriented ability to prioritize and multi-task and meet deadlines Strong leadership quotient with a bias to action is required Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with others in team environment Ability to professionally interface with vendors external peers and regulators Exceptional communication skills to convey complex engineering topics to a wide audienceComputer Skills Proficient with Microsoft Suite including Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook Experience with CAD software (Solid Works) Microsoft Office Femap and NXNastran Prefer experience with a basic coding language (such as VBA) and MathcadCertificates Licenses Registrations Strong knowledge and understanding of FAA certification process and experience with commercial aircraft structures.
