Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Manufacturing Operations Manager to join our team in Huntsville AL.
Reporting directly to the Rocket Motor Production Manager this position develops strategies and manages the execution of the production activities as flowed down to the energetic facilities.
This current opening may be filled at this level or one level higher.
The successful individual will be responsible for manufacturing of high technology products that conform to contractual and Aerojet Rocketdyne requirements for performance reliability and any special characteristics. Assures that activities within defined scope are accomplished in accordance with Aerojet Rocketdyne policies sound business practices and are in compliance with applicable regulations and requirements. Typically accomplishes results through hourly non-exempt or entry-level exempt employees. Monitors work operations on a daily basis and actively assists or provides direction to subordinates.
15% - Provide direction to subordinates guided by established policies and precedents. Interpret and execute policies that typically affect individual employees of organization.
25% - Provide technical and administrative supervision to multiple programs within the operations group in the manufacturing area.
25% - Schedule and utilize personnel material and equipment to ensure that production goals are met. This is accomplished by using lean manufacturing tools to orchestrate the production line activities. Ensure facilities are clean and maintained to support operations.
15% - Establish and maintain a variety of records and reports monitoring internal operating controls. Monitor and update production boards in work areas. Respond to issues that arise on the shop floor.
10% - Inspect and coordinate maintenance of equipment and the facility.
10% - Provide specific training in manufacturing techniques policies and procedures and/or safety and environmental procedures.
This is a first level supervisor position requiring a Bachelors degree and seven (7) years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required skills and knowledge include:
- Supervisory and administrative skills including the ability to select appraise motivate and develop subordinates.
- Knowledge in a manufacturing environment with process equipment specialty tooling and facility maintenance.
- Familiarity with SH&E practices in the manufacturing environment.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Outlook Excel Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to provide effective direction leadership and team building.
- Demonstrated abilities to plan prioritize and delegate work assignments including ability to define implement and execute standard work.
- Skills and abilities to provide technical and administrative guidance for activities in defined scope of responsibilities.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of management and individual contributors both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge and ability to supervise/manage multi-functional manufacturing operations.
- Knowledge of design practices manufacturing techniques and inspection requirements as they relate to the production floor.
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot cold wet humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking standing sitting climbing (i.e. ladders stair scaffolding ramps) balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking standing or crouching on narrow slippery or erratically moving surfaces) bending reaching handling/fingering (seizing holding grasping turning picking pinching) stooping kneeling crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses safety shoes and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
